lication for $26,000 for Round Island Park <br />Improvements <br />The Board reviewed the following memo from County <br />Engineer Griffith: <br />TO: The Honorable Members of DATE: August 28, 1984 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Michael Wright, <br />County Administrator <br />SUBJECT: Round Island Ramp, Docks and <br />Daybeacons <br />FROM: "VG" Griffith, Jr. P.E. REFERENCES: <br />County Engineer <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />The County submitted to the Department of Natural Resources <br />an application on Oct. 24, 1983 for a Boating Improvement Program <br />Grant in the amount of $17,347 to construct subject project. <br />Approval was received and the County advertized for bids <br />on May 14 through June 11, 1984 for subject project and opened <br />the bids on June 11, 1984. The low bid was $35,375 which was <br />extremely higher than our estimate of $17,347. <br />At the advice of County Attorney Gary Brandenburg, the.Board <br />was requested to authorize rejection of the bids and approval <br />was received at the July 18th meeting. <br />After discussing this project with Mr. Robert Mutch, President <br />of Mid -Atlantic Dredging Inc. who was a low bidder on the project, <br />we established some modification that reduced the cost of the <br />project to $26,000. This will include Road and Bridge constructing <br />the ramp. <br />Jim Davis, Public Works Director, informed the Parks and <br />Recreation Committee of the difference between the bids and our <br />estimates at the Committee's. July 12, 1984 meeting. Mr. Davis <br />asked the Committee to approve the amount of $26,000 and recommend <br />to the Board of County Commissioners that the project be rebid. <br />The Committee members present were in agreement with Mr. Davis' <br />request but could not formally approved it for lack of a quorum. <br />Committee Chairman Dick Bird stated he would bring the matter <br />to the Board of County Commissioners attention. <br />Before this project can be <br />from the Department of Natural <br />to DNR must be accompanied with <br />approval to submit same. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />rebid, we must have an agreement <br />Resources (DNR).
