P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />WHEREAS, Indian River Junior College was treated <br />by an Act of the Florida Legislature in 1959 and opened <br />in 1960; Indian River Junior College and Lincolg Junior <br />College were accredited by the State in 1965, and the <br />two colleges were merged in 1966; Indian River Junior <br />College became INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE in 1970; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, enrollment of INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY <br />COLLEGE has grown from 169 students and a faculty of 10• <br />members in 1960 to an estimated 6,500 students and a <br />faculty of 125 members in 1984; and the school's <br />physical facilities in St. Lucie County have multiplied <br />and have been expanded into Indian River, Martin and <br />Okeechobee Counties with greatly increased curriculums <br />for its students; and <br />WHEREAS, many INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE <br />students have attained academic excellence, scoring <br />among the highest grade point averages at State <br />colleges and universities and have distinguished <br />themselves in many career fields and community <br />services, making the residents of this four -county area <br />extremely proud of the outstanding reputation INDIAN <br />RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE enjoys in the educational <br />advancement of students; and <br />WHEREAS, INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE declared <br />that there will be a year-long celebration in <br />observation of the TWENTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE, and began their Silver <br />Anniversary events- with a kickoff ceremony honoring <br />thirty-seven of its founders on Sunday, September 9, <br />1984; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />that the year, September 1984 through August 1985, be <br />designated as: <br />"INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR" <br />and urge our citizenry to participate in Indian River <br />Community College's Silver Anniversary Festivities and <br />show appreciation for the many accomplishments of INDIAN <br />RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE. <br />ATTEST: <br />Freda Wright, Clerk <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />BY: �...
