Tentative figures have been submitted that <br />significantly reduce the County's portion, and he believed the <br />community would react favorably to what is now being proposed, <br />but he did not know what we could discuss today that would do <br />anything but cloud the issue. <br />Commissioner Bird agreed we should meet with the City. We <br />are in a partnership situation with them, and he believed it is <br />the next step we should take. <br />Mr. Zorc then reported at length on the telephone conversa- <br />tion he had with Clay Sanders of the Jacksonville office of the <br />Department of the Army and quoted statements made to him over the <br />phone, which he felt made it very clear that nothing further will <br />be done until they receive "an affirmation in writing as to the <br />ability and willingness of the sponsor to cost share." Mr. Zorc <br />emphasized that what Mr. Sanders was talking about was not just <br />the $171,000 - that what they want is the commitment in writing <br />for the County's share of the 4.9 million project. He believed <br />there is sufficient substantial information available now to have <br />the public consider the matter on a straw ballot, but stated that <br />he would agree to giving the voters the option of deciding <br />whether they would be in favor of having the City owners pay a <br />larger share or whether they did not wish to spend anything at <br />all on the project. <br />The Chairman continued to emphasize the need for a joint <br />workshop. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, the Board unanimously <br />(4-0) directed that the Chairman schedule a <br />workshop with the Vero Beach City Council to <br />discuss our partnership situation in the beach <br />renourishment project. <br />47 <br />NOV 719 BOOK 58 F,Au 793 <br />
