have four or five bond counsels for a firm to choose from, the <br />bond counsels all start vying with each other to get the job and <br />then they make deals with the applicant which can be to the <br />County's detriment. He again emphasized that the current bond <br />counsel has done a good job for the County over the years; he, <br />therefore, feels comfortable relying on him in these matters, and <br />he would like to continue with the current bond counsel. <br />Commissioner Scurlock did not believe that Freeman is the <br />only bond counsel in the State of Florida we would be able to <br />feel comfortable with, and noted that he is just asking the <br />County Attorney to select five firms from the entire State of <br />Florida that he could feel comfortable with and then rank them <br />and prioritize them for negotiations. <br />Chairman Lyons felt that there is a lot of difference <br />between an attorney and an engineer, but he did believe the type <br />of discussion held today helps the County Attorney to keep a <br />handle on the costs of these services. <br />Commissioner Wodtke noted that this bond counsel works very <br />closely with our County Attorney. He did agree that bond counsel <br />has to be made to realize that he must be competitive on his <br />fees, but he did not feel that bond counsels should be <br />prioritized. <br />Commissioner Bird concurred. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION.
