PINT SUBJECT: HAZARDOUS WASTE <br />ASSESSMENT <br />FROM: RONALD R. BROOKS <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />Section 403.7225, Florida Statutes, required that a local hazardous waste <br />management assessment be prepared for each County. The assessment was to <br />be performed in coordination with the Regional Planning Council and in <br />accordance with guidelines prepared by the Florida Department of <br />Environmental Regulation. <br />The assessment had to address the following as a minimum:* <br />1. Identification of all hazardous waste generators within the <br />County. <br />2. Identification of the types and quantities of hazardous waste <br />generated within the County. <br />3. Identification of the hazardous waste management practices of <br />.generators within the County. <br />4. Identification of effective waste management practices for <br />hazardous waste generators requiring off-site services, including the <br />identification of types of facilities needed to serve the hazardous waste <br />generators within the County. <br />5. Identification of abandoned dump sites in the County. <br />6. Identification of the operating procedures at the County Landfill. <br />7. Designation of areas within the County in which a hazardous waste <br />storage facility may be located. <br />The assessment was to be completed:"and submitted to the Regional Planning <br />Council and the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation by July 1, <br />1985. <br />ANALYSIS <br />In coordination with the Regional Planning Council and with the services of <br />the consulting firm, ERM -South, the required hazardous waste assessment has <br />been completed. The attached report addresses all of the items of concern <br />and it is ready to be forwarded to the Regional Planning Council and the <br />Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners review the attached <br />report and approve it for submittal to the Regional Planning -Council and <br />the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. <br />4 <br />
