RESOLUTION 98- 21 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER <br /> COUNTY,FLORIDA,SUPPORTING THE USE <br /> OF PRESCRIBED BURNING AS A LAND <br /> MANAGEMENT TOOL IN INDIAN RIVER <br /> COUNTY. <br /> WHEREAS,prescribed burning is a critical resource management tool that,when properly <br /> administered, minimizes impacts on air quality, protects public safety, and enriches property <br /> aesthetics;and <br /> WHEREAS, much of the ecosystem of Indian River County, including endangered, <br /> threatened and species of special concern,is fire dependent for its vitality;and <br /> WHEREAS,prescribed burning reduces accumulated fuels and consequently lessens the <br /> likelihood and severity of uncontrolled and damaging wildfires;and <br /> WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature enacted Chapter 590.026, Florida Statutes, that <br /> recognized the benefits of conducting prescribed burning;and <br /> WHEREAS, rules governing open burning in Indian River County require that proper <br /> authorization be obtained from the Florida Division of Forestry, Department of Agriculture and <br /> Consumer Services,prior to conducting prescribed burning in Indian River County. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS,INDIAN RIVER COUNTY,FLORIDA that the Board supports the use <br /> of prescribed burning as a land management tool in Indian River County,Florida. <br /> The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Adams and the motion was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Ginn ,and,upon being put to a vote,the vote was as follows: <br /> Chairman John W.Tippin Absent <br /> Vice Chairman Kenneth R.Macht Aye <br /> Commissioner Fran B.
