Many local governments <br />require the applicant to post signs and notify surrounding <br />property owners by certified mail, thus defraying much of the <br />material costs and staff time required to process an application. <br />This is the main reason for lower application fees in many <br />jurisdictions. <br />The average rezoning application in Indian River County is for <br />less than five (5) acres. The County's present rezoning fee for <br />applications less than five (5) acres is lower than the fees <br />currently charged by other cities and counties in southern <br />Florida, considering many jurisdictions require the applicant to <br />post signs and contact surrounding property owners.
