Chairman Scurlock believed the State should have some <br />responsibility for the Highway Patrol's equipment. <br />Commissioner Bird felt that the main purpose of these radios <br />is to provide better communication between the Sheriff's Dept. <br />and the State Troopers. <br />Commissioner Wodtke pointed out that the Highway Patrol <br />investigates every accident, but General Services Director Sonny <br />Dean advised that the Sheriff's Dept has been working accidents <br />for about a year now. <br />Chairman Scurlock suggested that we include in our comments <br />to the State Legislature a statement re the need for adequate <br />funding of the State Highway Patrol to allow them to do their job <br />here in Indian River County. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wodtke, the Board unanimously <br />approved the Sheriff's request to purchase <br />new hand-held radios for the Florida Highway <br />Patrol as set out in the following estimate. <br />The Commissioners directed Director Dean to check on the <br />radar unit and hand-held radio unit assigned to the trooper who <br />was recently transferred. <br />23 <br />Bou 63 350 <br />JAN 2 2 1986 <br />
