Law Enforcement <br />Law enforcement impact fees are used to fund the capital construction and expansion of <br />police service related land, facilities and capital equipment required to support the <br />additional law enforcement service demand created by new growth. This section of the <br />report presents the results of the law enforcement impact fee update study for Indian River <br />County and will serve as the technical support docurfient for the calculated law <br />enforcement impact fee schedule. f!, <br />There are several major elements associated with the development of the law enforcement <br />impact fee. These include: <br />• Facility Inventory <br />• Service Area and Population <br />• Level -of -Service <br />• Cost Component <br />• Credit Component <br />• <br />Net Law Enforcement Impact -Cost <br />• Calculated Law Enforcement Impact Fee Schedule- <br />• Affordable Growth Strategy <br />• Law Enforcement Impact =Fee Schedule Comparison <br />Facility Inventory <br />According` to ormaprovided b' <br />inftion ythe IRC Sheriff's Office (IRCSO) and the County, Indian <br />\-• - I <br />River County,,has 68,000 square feet of building space and almost 13 acres of land <br />associated with law.enforcerrient services. Table VII -1 presents this information. <br />Building value is estimated/based on recent construction, insurance values of existing <br />buildings, and information from other Florida jurisdictions. Land value is based on the value <br />of parcels where existing buildings are located and an analysis of vacant land sales and <br />values. Additional information is provided in Appendix F. <br />It should be noted that, in addition to these buildings, IRCSO leases several buildings to <br />accommodate substations and storage facilities.
