He relayed <br /> the request of the Beach and Shore Preservation Advisory <br /> Committee (BSPA) for the Board to approve a Resolution <br /> opposing the USACE's proposal, and direct staff to work with <br /> the Legislators to look at the use of non-domestic sand <br /> sources for beach projects. <br /> ON MOTION by Commissioner O'Bryan, SECONDED by <br /> Vice Chairman Flescher, the Board unanimously approved <br /> Resolution 2016-007, opposing the United States Army Corps <br /> of Engineers proposed plan to dredge and relocate bulk ocean <br /> sand from Martin and St. Lucie Counties to Miami-Dade <br /> County. <br /> Commissioner O'Bryan pointed out that Miami-Dade County <br /> is not behind the request for the off-shore sand; the federal <br /> government does not consider the use of non-domestic sand <br /> sources viable for beach restoration projects. <br /> Tuck Ferrell, 1245 AlA, speaking on behalf of North Beach <br /> Civic Association, advocated for the protection of local sand <br /> sources.
