BROOKS <br />ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST <br />SUBJECT: GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROGRAMS <br />VISTA ROYAL, VISTA GARDENS AND GIFFORD <br />WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS 1. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Our wastewater consulting engineers, Camp, Dresser & McKee, Inc., <br />have recently obtained required DER groundwater monitoring permits <br />for the Vista Royal, Vista Gardens and Gifford wastewater treat- <br />ment plants. These permits require the installation of addition- <br />al groundwater monitoring wells at the Vista Royal and Vista <br />Gardens wastewater treatment plants and the installation of a <br />piezometer well at the Gifford plant. Detailed drawings of the <br />wells along with a breakdown of the soil types and stratigraphy of <br />the well sites must also be prepared and submitted to DER. <br />To insure that DER is satisfied with the design and construction <br />of the monitoring wells, a professional engineer should oversee <br />the .construction of the wells and prepare and sign the as -built <br />drawings and soil stratigraphy of the wells. <br />CONCLUSION <br />Attached* as Exhibit A is a proposal by Camp, Dresser S McKee, <br />Inc., for installation of the required monitoring wells and <br />preparation of the as -built drawings with soil stratigraphy. The <br />proposal addresses only the work needed at the Vista Royal and <br />Vista Gardens plants and does not include the construction of a <br />piezometer well at the Gifford plant. The total cost for the work <br />at the Vista Royal and Vista Gardens plants as outlined in the <br />proposal will be $12,800.00 and it will cover the construction of <br />4 monitoring wells and preparation of a complete well completion <br />report with detailed as -built drawings. Additional costs for the <br />installation of the piezometer well at Gifford is forthcoming. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Board authorize the Utilities Department <br />to enter into a contract with Camp, Dresser E McKee Inc., for <br />installation of the required monitoring wells as provided in the <br />attached proposal; and further, to negotiate a contract for <br />installation of the single piezometer well for the Gifford waste- <br />water plant. <br />28 <br />
