Enforcement
SUBJECT: 2016 A Healthy Lagoon: Let's Chalk About It
Stormwater Chalk Art Contests
DATE: 1/14/2016
DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS
"A Healthy Lagoon: Let's Chalk About It" is a new approach to Stormwater Division's goals and objectives of
enhancing public educational activities. The contest had its first year in spring 2015 with great success! There
were more than 25 contestants and each age group was represented from toddlers to adults. This year we are
headed back to Sebastian's Earth Day Celebration at Riverview Park, and have been invited this year to also
attend the Environmental Learning Center's EcoFest.
The goal of this contest is to bring public awareness to stormwater pollution and issues in our Indian River
Lagoon. As children and adults chalk pictures about problems the Lagoon is facing and ways we can help prevent
pollution, they will be educating each person who walks by. "Let's Chalk About It" is a creative way to get many
people to learn about the Lagoon and stormwater pollution, especially people who are unfamiliar with the
Lagoon and its many issues. This event is run by Stormwater Division staff and is also in collaboration with The
Environmental Learning Center, FIT's Vero Beach Marine Lab, and IRC's Coastal Division.
Promotional video for the contest is available online at www.irestormwater.com and is to be broadcast on the
government channel. Video professionally filmed and created pro bono by Logan Peralta.
FUNDING
Fundingr for this event is budgeted and available in the Stormwater Promotional Expenses account No.
11128138-034820. Total cost for this event is estimated to be $1000 and is primarily for supplies and
supplementary prizes.
Prizes for the event have been donated to the ELC from Adventure Kayaking totaling $150!
F:\Public Works\Alexis Peralta\Commision Meetings\02 16 16 Chalk Art Presentation. docx
85
