' <br />RECOMMENDATION:_ <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners autho- <br />rize staff to transmit a letter to the D.E.R. with the follow- <br />ing comments. <br />1) The Department of Environmental Regulation and other <br />appropriate agencies should consider the potential cumula- <br />tive impacts of the dockage projects upon the Florida <br />Manatee; <br />2) The Department of Environmental Regulation and other <br />appropriate agencies should evaluate the potential impact <br />of the aproject on ecologically significant submerged <br />bottomlands such as seagrass beds in the Indian River. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Lyons, the Board unanimously authorized <br />staff to transmit the comments set out in the above <br />memo to the DER. <br />J. AUTHORIZATION FOR PREPARATION OF AN ORDINANCE FOR SCHOOL <br />CROSSING GUARDS AT ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Lyons, the Board unanimously authorized <br />the County Attorney to prepare an ordinance providing <br />for a school crossing guard at all public schools in <br />the county with the funding to come from the proceeds <br />of fines received from persons convicted of civil <br />traffic infractions. <br />PROCLAMATION HONORING CAROLYN EGGERT <br />Chairman Scurlock read aloud the following proclamation and <br />presented it to Carolyn Eggert, who thanked the Board for the <br />honor and felt that after seeing several Planning Departments <br />come and go, the County could be very proud of the present <br />department. <br />13 <br />
