AUG 26 `1 <br />RESOLUTION 385 <br />BOOK 65 FnUF. 51 2 <br />WHEREAS, it is accepted knowledge that a cocaine (crack) pro- <br />blem exists in our county, <br />WHEREAS, the cocaine (crack) problem is growing in epidemic <br />proportions, <br />WHEREAS, the problem is widespread and adversely affects all <br />areas of the county, <br />WHEREAS, such a widespread and serious problem is best approa- <br />ched from a broad front, <br />WHEREAS, the Town Council of Indian River Shores is concerned <br />for its citizens as well as all other residents of the county, <br />BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, THAT THE TOWN COUNCIL OF INDIAN RIVER <br />SHORES URGES THE COUNTY COMMISSION TO FAVORABLY CONSIDER SUPPORTING <br />PROGRAMS TO: <br />(1) Place law enforcement school resource officers in the <br />Indian River County School system, <br />(2) Urge our state legislators to enact new laws that elevate <br />the seriousness of "crack" related offenses, <br />(3) Provide for greater jail capacity in the county system <br />to accomodate the increased demand resulting from the above, <br />(4) Expand county recreation opportunities for the juvenile <br />population centers as alternative activities for the county's youth. <br />FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT inthe interest of immediate short <br />term solutions to the "crack" problem, if the County Commission <br />determines additional funds are required, Indian River Shores Town <br />Council would support such an expenditure, <br />STATE OF FLORIDA <br />COUNTY OF INDIAN RIVER <br />�,;k�,_T(bereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy <br />adopted by Indian River Shores at a meeting held on <br />Aly of August 1986, and recorded in its minutes, <br />Nirgibelay L. ;Gil ert, Town Clercs <br />om <br />
