As you are aware the spread of drugs (especially <br />crack) could be the single most important problem facing <br />our nation and our county. It spreads because it is allowed <br />to exist in a few tiny pockets like "The Horseshoe". <br />This county has the vehicle to wipe out drugs in the <br />Horseshoe area. That vehicle is the enforcement of existing <br />ordinances already on the books i.e.: the building code, <br />health, safety and welfare laws. If our county permits <br />the drug dealers an illegal base from which to operate <br />now, it may never again be able to control drugs and crima <br />In the future. Sheriff Hobeck wants to drive the dealers <br />out of Indian River County. He needs our support. <br />A noise ordinance would give him additional clout to <br />use with discretion to that end. Good citizens abide by <br />building and zoning laws. He did believe we have the ability <br />to step in if there are code violations. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bowman, the Board unanimously requested <br />that the Code Enforcement staff investigate the <br />allegations set out in Mr. Mustapick's letter of <br />September 2nd. <br />COUNTY POLICY RE NAMING BUILDINGS <br />Commissioner Bird commented that he had seen the letter the <br />Chairman had written Mr. Ramos, architect for the new County <br />Health Building, when he had inquired if it would be appropriate <br />that the building or a portion of it be named in honor of Dr. <br />Tucker, and the Chairman had replied it is not County policy to <br />name anything after anyone as it might cause injured feelings. <br />Commissioner Bird did not necessarily agree with that statement. <br />49 <br />SEP ' <br />BOOP( Pklu 669 <br />
