t <br />SEP 3 0 1966 <br />BOOK <br />PROCLAMATION - AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS <br />Chairman Scurlock read aloud the following Proclamation <br />designating the month of October, 1986, for observance of the <br />Indian River Chapter, AMERICAN RED CROSS, 60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, <br />and presented it to Jim Ledbetter, who expressed his thanks. <br />P•R O C L A M A T I O N <br />WHEREAS, the AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS is the instrument <br />chosen by the United States Congress to help carry out the <br />obligations assumed by the government under certain international <br />treaties known as the Geneva or Red Cross Convention; and <br />WHEREAS, the AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS°s Congressional <br />Charter imposes upon them the duties to act as the medium of <br />voluntary relief and communication between the American people <br />and their armed forces, and to carry on a system of National and <br />International relief to prevent and mitigate suffering caused by <br />disaster; and <br />WHEREAS, nationally and locally the AMERICAN RED CROSS is <br />governed by volunteers and it is financed totally by voluntary <br />contributions; all services rendered are free to individuals in <br />need; and - <br />WHEREAS, the INDIAN RIVER CHAPTER of the AMERICAN NATIONAL <br />RED CROSS was certified as being organized and obligated to <br />engage in RED CROSS activities in conformity with the policies <br />and regulations prescribed by the Central Committee at Washington <br />over the signatures of President Calvin Coolidge and Secretary <br />Mabel T. Boardman, October 20, 1926; and <br />WHEREAS, October 20, 1986 will be the 60th year of operation <br />of the, INDIAN RIVER CHAPTER of the AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS of Indian River* County, Florida, that the month of <br />October, 1986 be designated for observance of ` <br />INDIAN RIVER CHAPTER, AMERICAN RED CROSS, <br />60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION <br />in Indian River County, and the Board further urges all citizens <br />-of-the County to participate and support this worthy occasion. <br />Adopted September 30, 1986 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />� C <br />DON SCURLOCK, J ., CHAIRMAN <br />W <br />
