A; copy of the relevant law and of the Department of <br />Administration MEMORANDUM is attached. <br />This item is put before the Board for its consideration of <br />whether to elect to contribute one-half the amount due to <br />upgrade retirement services for County officer -s <br />participating in the Elected State Officers' Class of the <br />Florida Retirement System. <br />Assistant County Attorney Bruce Barkett advised that the <br />Florida Retirement System was changed in 1980 to permit the <br />vesting of elected public officials in 8 years instead of 10. <br />The Board of County Commissioners can elect to contribute <br />one-half the amount due to upgrade retirement services for <br />elected County officers. <br />Chairman Scurlock noted that Commissioner Lyons leaves <br />office next month, so there is a deadline of November 17, 1986. <br />Commissioner Lyons stated that in his case he has to vest <br />about $2700 and the County would have to pay $2700 for a total of <br />$5400. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, the Board unanimously (4-0), <br />Commissioner Wodtke having left the meeting early, <br />elected to participate to the maximum limit of the law, <br />and participation would affect only the elected <br />officers of the Indian River County Board of <br />Commissioners; funding to come out of general fund <br />contingencies. <br />DISCUSSION RE FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR PHASE II OF NEW JAIL AND <br />MOVING EXISTING MOBILE FACILITIES TO NEW JAIL SITE <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 10/10/86: <br />73 <br />OCT 211986 <br />KOK66 PnE184 <br />
