The owner <br />does realize it can be taken by eminent domain, but if he does <br />his own appraisal, he will undoubtedly realize the first <br />appraisal was incorrect. <br />Chairman Scurlock stated that he would like to offer the 2.7 <br />million and if that fails, go to condemnation. He did not know <br />where we will get the money to make up the difference, but did <br />not feel we can have enough oceanfront. <br />Commissioner Bird agreed and emphasized that this would give <br />us around 3,000 continuous feet of oceanfront for only $200,000. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously authorized <br />staff to amend the offer to 2.7 million, and if that <br />is not accepted, go to condemnation. <br />Attorney Barkett reported that he has been informed by the <br />attorney for the Board of Trustees in Tallahassee that so many <br />counties around the state are trying to close their property <br />deals for tax reasons that the current bond issue is about to run <br />out; the state will release this money and reacquire it by March. <br />The money is still guaranteed, and we have to initiate condemna- <br />tion by April 1st in any event. <br />TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE - SUMMARY OF ACTIONS <br />Commissioner Bowman reviewed the following summary: <br />78 <br />BOOK <br />117 <br />Attorney Barkett <br />advised that he has been in contact with <br />the trustee for the owner of this property, and he is concerned <br />about getting a fair appraisal and fair market value.
