FE B <br />2 4 <br />1987 <br />BOOK. <br />4 <br />Commissioner <br />Bird expected that when these rates <br />are <br />published, the Commission will receive a lot of criticism from <br />people who feel the rates are too high for a county -owned course. <br />He pointed out, however, that the rates are competitive with <br />other clubs in the area, and that they have to be if the golf <br />course is to succeed. <br />Chairman Scurlock emphasized that we built this course at <br />today's high costs while other clubs in the area were built when <br />capital costs were much lower. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt it is going to be important that we <br />have a professional manager and staff to act as a buffer between <br />this Board and the golf course, as he did not want to be under <br />pressure as far as the day-to-day operation is concerned. <br />Commissioner Bird believed that the Commissioners will <br />receive phone calls regarding the operation of the course, but <br />just would have to refer them back to staff. <br />Director Baird presented the following proposed operating <br />budget, which is based on 40,000 rounds of golf played annually: <br />67 <br />
