AUTHORIZATION FOR OUT -OF -COUNTY TRAVEL - COMMISSIONER EGGERT <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously authorized <br />out -of -county travel for Commissioner Eggert to go to <br />Tallahassee on September 10-11, 1987 to meet with <br />various State departments. <br />DISCUSSION RE POSSIBLE LOCATION OF THE MAIN LIBRARY IN THE NEW <br />GOVERNMENTAL COMPLEX TO BE BUILT IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA <br />Commissioner Eggert advised that there has been some - <br />discussion about building a governmental complex in downtown Vero <br />Beach, and asked for the Commission's feelings on the possibility <br />i <br />of locating the new main library in the complex. She stressed <br />that finding affordable property on which to build the new <br />library is becoming very difficult. <br />Chairman Scurlock believed that the area behind the existing <br />courthouse would be an excellent location for such a government <br />complex which could include a new courthouse, library, Public <br />Defender's office, etc. <br />Commissioner Wheeler advised that the Courthouse Committee <br />is currently waiting on a report for long-term space needs, but <br />he personally felt that a government complex would revitalize the <br />entire downtown area and agreed it would be an excellent spat for <br />the new library. <br />Attorney Vitunac advised that there is no problem with <br />moving ahead on the bonds for the Sebastian Library, but <br />Commissioner Eggert stated that her intentions had been to bring <br />both !libraries along together. However, she realized that would <br />not be feasible if there is agreement to include the main library <br />in t e new governmental complex because of the time it will take <br />to d velop a master plan for the complex. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked if we have a legal vehicle to pursue <br />this1so that the Committee could work together, and Attorney <br />50 BOOK FAcE 179 <br />AUG 2 5 1�O <br />
