r <br />SEP 2 2 1987 BooK PAGE <br />550 <br />Bill Koolage, 815 26th Avenue, felt there is a tremendous <br />problem in this state in connection with malpractice insurance <br />reform. Some of the states have taken care of this by amending <br />their laws and putting caps on awards. He reported that State <br />Senator Deratany and State Representative Patchett indicated at a <br />recent meeting that there wasn't anything they could do and sort <br />of pooh-poohed the whole thing. Mr. Koolage encouraged the Board <br />to take a very strong stand on this matter and ask our local <br />legislators to push for reform. However, he warned that they <br />will give you a song and dance because he and Steve Holmes have <br />heard it from them. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously (3-0.) <br />directed the County Attorney to draft a letter <br />to the Legislature expressing the County's increasing <br />concern and asking them to please take some action on <br />the ever-increasing problem, and authorized the <br />Chairman's signature. <br />PROCEDURES FOR PLACING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 9/17/87: <br />N.
