V. Dodgertown Elementary School - <br />45th Street west of 43rd Avenue <br />A. Short Term Solution - <br />The School Board is presently bussing children living west of <br />43rd Avenue along N. .Gifford Road. At this time, this area is <br />declared "Hazardous walking conditions". <br />B. Long Term Solution - <br />The County is in the process of acquiring right-of-way along N. <br />Gifford Road from Ord Avenue to 58th Avenue. A pedestrian path <br />is to be constructed along this.area in 1988/89. <br />Approximate cost Right-of-way $52,800 <br />Pedestrian Path 40,000 <br />(included in Gifford Improvements Project) $92,800 <br />VI. Pelican Island Elementary <br />CR 505 (Lateral "Al road between CR510 to Schumann Drive <br />A. Short Term Solution - <br />At this time, the County staff does not feel that a hazardous <br />walking condition exists along CR505 north of CR510. A wider <br />shoulder than four feet exists. <br />B. Long Term Solution - <br />The County Road and Bridge Department is scheduled to construct a <br />sidewalk along the east side of CR505 during. calendar year 1988 <br />in the unincorporated area Q mile). <br />Estimated construction cost $ 20,000 <br />Staff recommends that the above Short Term and Long Terns Solutions be <br />approved. Total funding required is $482,360, however, the following <br />projects will be constructed with other projects already programmed: <br />III. B. Thompson School - Oslo Road <br />Sidewalk $24,000 <br />IV. B. Glendale School - East to 43rd Avenue <br />Right -o€ -way $40,000 <br />Sidewalk 19,800 <br />$59,800 <br />(included in Miscellaneous Intersections, Phase III) <br />V. B. Dodgertown Elementary <br />Right-of-way $52,800 <br />Pedestrian Path 40,000 <br />$92,800 <br />(included in N. Gifford Road Improvements) <br />Funding of the remaining projects ($304,760) should be a joint effort <br />between the School District and the County, with phasing to be considered <br />over a 5 -year period. <br />Commissioner Eggert wished to know what the School Board and <br />the County Commission's policy is on doing sidewalks. <br />Chairman Scurlock commented that he had not been all that <br />aware that sidewalk improvements to the tune of about $200,000 <br />were included in some of our road projects, i.e., Thompson, <br />Glendale and Dodgertown Elementary, and he wished to know why we <br />OCT 2 ? 1987 77���oK 69 rnf 850 <br />
