PINTO <br />DIRECTOR OF UTILITY S <br />SUBJECT: PEKING GARDENS, PIZZA HUT & SCOTTY'S VICINITY <br />PUMP STATION AND GRAVITY SEWER PROJECT <br />WORK AUTHORIZATION #19 - WASTEWATER <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services has declared the <br />US 1 / 6th avenue corridor to be an environmentally sensitive area <br />that is subject to public health hazards and pollution problems due <br />to prone and on-site wastewater disposal systems. Further the <br />Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services urges the County <br />Utility Department to make wastewater service to this corridor top <br />priority. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Utility staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners <br />authorize the Chairman to sign the attached work authorization for <br />the consulting engineering design services of Masteller and Moler, <br />Inc., relative to the construction of a new sewage pump station and <br />force main, and gravity sewer with manholes to service Pizza Hut, <br />Peking Gardens, and Scotty's. This new construction will run along <br />the west side of 6th Avenue from the pump station site north on 6th <br />Avenue and East on 8th Street, for connection to the existing 6" <br />force main on Indian River Boulevard. After the project is completed and all <br />expenses finalized, the assessment will be calculated on each <br />connecting parcel. <br />Director Pinto informed the Board that we have had a lot of <br />problems east of U.S.#1 with failing septic systems, and we have <br />already picked up'from Rax Restaurant to Janie Dean Chevrolet, <br />including the Clock Restaurant, where there were major problems, <br />80 <br />
