Baird <br />OMB Director <br />Description and Condition <br />Indian River County is requesting permission from the Board of <br />County Commissioners to apply to the state for a Highway Safety Grant. <br />This grant would be used by Traffic Engineering to purchase a• <br />thermoplastic material premelter, equipment which is used in pavement <br />markings. Traffic engineering's staff feels that this instrument will <br />increase highway safety and decrease maintenance schedules through the <br />use of long -life thermoplastic markings. Further, it will allow the <br />county to increase the quantity of signalized intersections having <br />thermoplastic markings from 53% in 1987 to 75% by September 30, 1988, <br />and finally to 100% by September 30, 1989 using current staffing <br />levels. <br />V 1 <br />1987 17 BOOK 70 FA.�E 54 <br />
