DEC <br />1997 <br />Boa 70 <br />26 <br />L. Proclamation <br />- Drunk & Drugged Driver Awareness Week <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or <br />controlled substances contributes significantly to fatalities and <br />injuries each year on Indian River County's highways; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Florida is providing assistance to <br />local governments in development .of community-based traffic <br />safety programs.with DUI emphasis; and <br />WHEREAS, citizen advocacy groups, such as Mothers Against <br />Drunk Driving (MADD), Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD), <br />Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID), and Boost Alcohol Consciousness <br />Concerning the Health of University Students (BACCHUS) are <br />increasing their efforts to reduce the incidence of driving under <br />the influence in Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary that each citizen becomes more <br />keenly aware of and knowledgeable concerning the problem of <br />driving under the influence and the penalties that are imposed <br />under Florida's DUI law; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the week of <br />December 13-19, 1987, shall be designated as _ <br />DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING AWARENESS WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and all citizens are urged to become -more <br />cognizant of the intoxicated driver problem and to support <br />efforts within the County to reduce the incidence of driving <br />under the influence. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />-i� <br />DON C.
