Balczun DATE: February 22, 1988 FILE: <br />County Administrator <br />SUBJECT: <br />Agenda Item <br />Revision of E911 <br />Base Maps <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director REFERENCES: <br />Emergency Management Services <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />The existing E-911 base maps consist of two large maps (each <br />4' X 5') that cover only the eastern one-third of the County <br />and west to the general area of 130th Avenue. This leaves <br />a large geographic area (two-thirds) of the County not reflected <br />on the base maps and has on occassion been a problem for the <br />emergency providers to locate streets and routes in responding <br />to calls for assistance. <br />A proposal has been submitted by Boyle Engineering Corporation <br />to reformat the maps into four small maps to cover the entire <br />county. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The current E-911 base maps are large and cumbersome along <br />with the fact that only the eastern part of the County is <br />covered by the maps. In order to produce accurate and adequate <br />maps, discussion with the above referenced vendor in 1987 <br />determined that to accomplish the stated objectives, it would <br />be necessary to manually draft the existing roads, geographic <br />features, and 911 boundaries in the western two-thirds of <br />the County on Mylar combining this information with the exist- <br />ing 911 base maps which cover the eastern one-third of the <br />County. The 911 base maps will then be reformated so that <br />the entire county is covered by four (4) sheets which measure <br />approximately 36" X 48". Some photographic work will be re- <br />quired to produce the final Mylars of the four maps. <br />The corporate limits of some of the municipalities have changed <br />and need to be changed on the maps during this process. <br />Boyle Engineering has proposed to accomplish the above scope <br />of work. In addition a small key -map to show the area covered <br />by each quadrant map and perform other minor drafting as required. <br />The budget estimate for the E-911 base maps is estimated to <br />be between $1,500 - $2,000 and would take approximately two <br />weeks to complete after all the required data is provided. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of the scope of work in reformating <br />the E-911 base maps.
