21 <br />In the Cubit/County contract, Section 2, BASIC SERVICES, <br />Paragraph 2.1.4, required the consultant to "prepare a Final <br />Report of Engineer's finding and recommendations, furnish 50 <br />copies to COUNTY and present it in person and review it with <br />COUNTY". Also, Exhibit A, Section 6 of the Agreement require the <br />ENGINEER to attend "eight (8) meetings with County officials as <br />called by the County to complete the above tasks". <br />The Consultant is indicating to staff that a presentation was <br />given to the Beach Preservation and Restoration Committee <br />previously and that eight meetings have been attended by the <br />ENGINEER. As a result, the Engineer is requesting $1280 addi- <br />tional compensation for making the final presentation. <br />The Consultant is also requesting final payment in the amount of <br />$16,493.11 plus alleged interest, of $2,764.89. Staff does not <br />agree that interest is due. The total contract amount is <br />$97,411. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The alternatives are as follows: <br />Alternative No. 1 <br />Schedule a formal presentation on the Cubit Report - Beach <br />Preservation Plan for Indian River County, on Tuesday, <br />August 2, 1988. Request the Consultant to perform this <br />presentation at no additional cost to the contract. After <br />the final presentation is given, the. Board would consider <br />final payment ? <br />Alternative No. 2 <br />Schedule a formal presentation on the Cubit Report for <br />Indian River County on Tuesday, August 2, 1988. Compensate <br />the Consultant $1,280 as additional compensation. <br />Alternative No. 3 <br />Relieve the Consultant from the responsibility of conducting <br />a final presentation. The County has currently paid Cubit <br />Engineering $80,917.89 to date for work performed. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Alternative No. 1 is recommended whereby a final presentation is <br />to be scheduled on August 4, 1988. <br />Administrator Balczun advised that staff has no intention of <br />recommending to the Board that the County even consider paying <br />the alleged interest sought by Cubit Engineering, nor does it <br />have any intention of suggesting that we pay Cubit to make a <br />presentation to the Board. <br />As chairman of the Beach Preservation & Restoration <br />Committee, Commissioner Wheeler commended Public Works Director <br />Jim Davis and Vero Beach Coastal Resources Project Manager George <br />Gross for the outstanding job they have done in working with <br />Cubit over these many months to make the report less "generic." <br />JUN37 211998 Boor. l 84 <br />J <br />
