ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Bowman, the Board unanimously (4-0) declared <br />that provision of a truck and driver as requested by <br />the VFW would result in a public benefit; declared <br />that the County could otherwise provide the surplus <br />commodity distribution itself; and authorized staff to <br />provide a vehicle and driver as proposed. <br />PURCHASE OF SOD FARM BY UTILITIES DEPT. <br />County Attorney Vitunac reviewed his memo: <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />Q"R�� <br />FROM: Charles P. Vitunac, County Attorney <br />DATE: June 28, 1988 <br />RE: SOD FARM <br />Commission Meeting - July 5, 1988 <br />At the June 7, 1988 meeting of the Board of County <br />Commissioners the Board held an advertised public hearing to <br />consider the purchase by the County of approximately 144 <br />acres of land by the Utilities Department to be used in <br />conjunction with the expansion of the wastewater treatment <br />system. The band is currently used as a sod farm. <br />The appraisals obtained by the County did not support the <br />purchase price offered by the sellers, and the Board <br />directed the staff to negotiate a contract with a price not - <br />to -exceed $11,500.00 per acre. The attached contract is <br />based on a price of $11,500.00 per acre for a total purchase <br />price of approximately .$1,720,000.00. The purchase price <br />would be.paid $700,000.00 in cash at closing and the balance <br />paid over two years with interest at 94% simple interest, <br />evidenced by a nonsecured promissory note of the County <br />which indicates that the note is not payable from ad valorem <br />taxes and is not secured by any liens or mortgages. <br />Staff recommends execution of this contract. <br />JUL 5 1988 58 BOOK 73 f'duE 198 <br />
