Secondly, he suggested that the county be <br />continue to be a leader and have mandatary separation at the curb <br />now. In Tallahassee and some other communities in the state, <br />they already have -to put glass, cans and paper in separate bins. <br />Thirdly, he suggested that commercial users be required to <br />compact their garbage. <br />Director Pinto advised that supermarkets are already doing <br />this; as soon as compacting becomes cost effective, they do it, <br />and Chairman Scurlock brought up the "Bottle" Bill. <br />Director Pinto stressed that we are willing to try to work <br />out this problem with leases. He still felt it is a benefit to <br />the owners of the property to have the Landfill whether they <br />utilize it or not, and pointed out that under a D.R.I.-, you <br />can't build a new shopping center if you don't have a Landfill <br />available that can provide the service. Mr. Pinto felt we must <br />keep in mind that there are 34,000 customers and and a very small <br />percentage have this problem. <br />The Chairman asked if anyone else wished to --be heard.
