McCAI <br />PROJECTS ENGINES <br />DEPARTMENT OF UTIL Y SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: SOILS WORK FOR THE NORTH COUNTY WASTEWATER COLLECTION AND <br />TRANSMISSION SYSTEM <br />BACKGROUND <br />Masteller and Moler Associates, Inc., has designed the North County <br />sewer project. The preliminary plans for the collection system are <br />currently under review by this Department. Before the project is <br />finalized and put out for bid soils exploration eed to be done <br />throughout -the project. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Consultants on this project have received estimates from several <br />soils testing firms, the lowest of which was from Universal <br />Engineering Testing Company of Merritt Island, FL., in the amount <br />of $3,495.00. <br />It is important to have the soils work completed prior to bidding to <br />assure more precise bidding. Without soils investigation, <br />Contractors tend to bid worse case conditions. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Department of Utility Services recommends tha the Board of <br />County Commissioners approve the above action, a d by doing so <br />approve the forthcoming contracts with Universal En ineering. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Bowman,. the Board unanimously approv�d the soils <br />work for the North County sewer project berg done by <br />Universal Engineering Testing Company of Mekritt Island <br />in the amount of $3,495 as recommended by siaff and <br />authorized Masteller S Moler to contract with them. <br />fi 20 �J�`7 65 <br />toor 74 Facr 349 <br />
