PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS the Indian River Arts Council is the county's <br />designated Local Arts Agency and serves as the umbrella <br />organization of the community's many cultural groups and <br />artists; and <br />WHEREAS the Arts Council sponsors an annual art <br />festival, in an effort to promote the arts, showcase the <br />talents of its members organizations, encourage artistic <br />imagination and creativity, and provide for recreational and <br />educational opportunities for all the citizens of Indian <br />River County, and neighboring areas; and <br />WHEREAS this year's art festival will feature the <br />culture of Africa and is dubbed "A Cultural Safari Through <br />Africa", and the Council's member organizations will develop <br />performances, exhibits and demonstrations, using the African <br />theme; and <br />WHEREAS traditionally launched by the Center for the <br />Arts' ever -popular. Children's Art Festival, the two-week <br />safari offers a wonderful variety of music, dance, ballet, <br />art exhibits, dramatic readings, lectures, travelogues, <br />puppet shows, in -school performances and many other exciting <br />offerings to be enjoyed by the entire community; and <br />WHEREAS the festival, which begins November 5 and <br />continues through November 16, has been expanded this year <br />to include the business community and members of the general <br />public; and <br />WHEREAS service clubs and civic organizations have <br />included lectures on African art and culture in their <br />programs and meetings; the news media, radio and television <br />have reached new audiences and the Beach Businesses are <br />participating in'%the festival with financial support by <br />using the African theme in their window displays and other <br />promotions; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week <br />of November 5 -- 16,. 1988 be designated as <br />INDIAN RIVER ARTS -IVA WEEKS <br />and urge the citizens of the community to participate and <br />enjoy the many events planned by the Arts Council as we all <br />go African! <br />} <br />BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that the Board urges the <br />continued support of the arts in recognition of its <br />contribution to the community in terms of education, <br />recreation, tourism and positive impact to the economy. <br />Dated this 1st day of <br />November, 1988 <br />NOV 11988 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />21 <br />C.
