Staff also requests direction <br />from the Board of County Commissioners as to capital equipment purchases <br />in view of the anticipated deficit. <br />It is felt that some of the equipment costs can be reduced if staff <br />is given the latitude to make appropriate adjustments in cooperation <br />with Chief James Gabbard and utilize some existing equipment in the <br />Vero Beach PSAP. <br />The surcharge is a small fee to pay for the level of service provided <br />to the populace assuring a timely response in an emergency there - <br />protecting life and property on a twenty-four hour basis year round. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bowman, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution 88-116 providing for the establishment <br />of a Countywide "911" Telephone Fee. <br />RESOLUTION - 88-116 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT <br />OF A COUNTYWIDE "911" TELEPHONE FEE TO PAY FOR RE- <br />CURRING AND NONRECURRING CHARGES; PROVIDING FOR SEVERA- <br />BILITY; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN THE INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature enacted House Bill 522 which <br />amended Section 365.711, Florida Statutes, entitled "The <br />Florida Emergency Telephone Act" to permit the imposition <br />of a "911" fee on all residential and business telephone <br />lines; and <br />WHEREAS, this fee may be used top pay for all recurring <br />and nonrecurring charges assessed to the county wide "911" <br />emergency telephone system; and <br />WHEREAS, this fee may not exceed $.50 per line, per <br />month; and <br />WHEREAS, the "911" fee will generate revenue which will <br />pay the cost of providing such service throughout the County <br />including the various municipalities; NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA: <br />Section 1, That the Board of County Commissioners <br />hereby establishes a fee of $.50 per month, per access line <br />up to a maximum of 25 access lines per account with $.40 of <br />the $.50 cap to be utilized for recurring charges and $.10 <br />NOV 1198 <br />66 <br />BOC 75 ME 66 <br />
