<br />The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met at
<br />the Court
<br />House in Vero Beach,
<br />at 10:00
<br />o'clock A.M.Tuesday, May 3rd
<br />1932, with
<br />the
<br />following
<br />members of the Board
<br />present:
<br />Albert 0. Helseth, Chairman;
<br />J.D.Yongue;
<br />J.W.
<br />LaBruce; J.J.P.Hamilton and Eli C. Walker. also present were Miles Warren, Clerk and
<br />C. S. Rice, ;Sheriff.
<br />The minutes of the previous meeting were ready. and approved.
<br />Commissioner I;aBruce introduced the following resolution, which was seconded by
<br />Commissioner Yongue:
<br />R E S O L U T 1 O N
<br />WHEREAS, it has been made to appear to the Indian River County Board of County
<br />Commissioners that it is the desire of marry of the sports fishermen of this County, and
<br />particularly the members of the Indian River County Game and Fish Protective League,
<br />that the predatory fish be removed from hake Blue Cypress, otherwise Isnown as Lake
<br />Wilmington, in order to protect and increase the supply of black bass, and
<br />WHEREAS, the Fish. and Game Department of Florida also desires to remove these
<br />predatory fish and will do so without cost to Indian River County or its citizens.
<br />THEREFORE, BE IT RES01VED by the Board of County Commissioners that the State Fish
<br />I
<br />and Game Department be requested to remove said predatory fish from Lake Blue Cypress,
<br />without cost to Indian River County, Florida.
<br />Those voting for the resolution being Commissioners LaBruee; Yongue and Helseth.
<br />opposed. Commissioners Hamilton and Walker.
<br />Application of Mrs Bertis Nelson, widow with 6 dependents, for Mothers' Pension
<br />was received. After consideration it vas ordered she be placed on such list to receive
<br />$20.00 per month until further orders of the Board.
<br />The Clerk announced he had received from the State Comptroller Certificate #166,
<br />dated March 24th 19329 showing Barnett National Bank, Cocoa, Florida, the designated
<br />depository and had lodged with him $109000.00 Government bonds as security,all of which
<br />was in conformity with the order of this Board heretofore made designating such Bank
<br />as the County Depository and stipulating the amount and kind of :securities for proper
<br />qualif ication.
<br />The following resolution was introduced by Commissioner.LaBrucei
<br />WHEREAS, the Trans -Florida Central Railro€id Company, operating between Sebastian
<br />and Fellsmere, Florida, have 16.04 miles of such railroad and has been returning the
<br />same for taxation yearly, and
<br />WMREA'S a total of 5.36 miles of said railroad has not been used by said Company
<br />for the past several years, although said Company has regularly returned the same and
<br />such iiileage
<br />has
<br />been assessed for taxing
<br />purposes, and
<br />WHEREAS
<br />the
<br />records of said Railroad
<br />Company show the taxes on said property to be
<br />nearly as much as the gross income of said railroad Company, and,
<br />WHEREAS the Railroad Assessment Board of the State of Florida has agreed that there
<br />is an error in the assessment of said property, in that the 5.36 miles of track should
<br />not be carried as revenue producing property when no operation is carried on over
<br />said track, and,
<br />WHEREA'S the 1930 State and County taxes on said properties amounts to $3,503.15,
<br />of which amount the sum of $1,200.00 has been paid by said Company;
<br />THEREFORE, BE IT RE aOLVED , by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River
<br />County, Florida, that the sum of x$19000.00 be accepted in full payment of the balance
<br />on the 1930 taxes, conditioned only upon the approval of same by the Railroad
<br />
