ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously approved <br />Contract with Dr. Roger J. Nicosia, Jr., as ALS <br />Medical Director. <br />Director Wright introduced Dr. Nicosia, who informed the <br />Board of his qualifications, and pledged to work with efficiency, <br />enthusiasm and cooperation, keeping in mind budgetary <br />constraints. <br />AGREEMENT <br />THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 3lstday of January, <br />A.D., 1989, by and between INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, a Political sub- <br />division of the State of Florida, (hereinafter referred to as <br />"County"), and Roger J. Nicosia, Jr., M.D. (hereinafter referred <br />to as "Physician"), a physician licensed to practice medicine in <br />the State of Florida, is made pursuant to the provisions of the <br />Chapter 401.265, Florida Statutes, employment of a Medical Director <br />for the Emergency Medical Services System for Indian River County, <br />Florida, from February 1, 1989 through September 30, 1989. <br />WHEREAS, medical services are provided by the County by means, <br />of its Emergency Medical Services, and <br />WHEREAS, the state of the art of delivery of advanced emergency <br />medical services by paramedics requires intravenous administration <br />of emergency resuscitative drugs and performances of sophisticated <br />technical emergency procedures; and <br />WHEREAS, the administration of drugs and performance of such <br />emergency procedures as endotracheal intubation, intravenous <br />catheterization, electrical defibrillation, and any other invasive - <br />emergency procedure may only be performed by or under the direction <br />of a licensed Florida physician according to the Medical Practice <br />Act of the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the County desires to provide advanced emergency <br />medical services by means of the Emergency Medical Services System; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, IN CONSIDERATION OF THE MUTUAL PROMISES <br />AND CONVENANTS AS SET FORTH HEREIN, THE PARTIES HERETO MUTUALLY <br />AGREE AS FOLLOWS: - <br />JAN 31199 <br />27 <br />EOG 75 PAGE 53 <br />
