FEB 1989 <br />PRESENTATION of 1988/89 BUDGET BOOK <br />BOOK"6 68 <br />OMB Director Baird presented the Commission with the first <br />bound Budget for the County, which was compiled by his staff and <br />represents many hours work. He advised that it does not reflect <br />any changes after September, 1988; that is how it has to be <br />presented if we are to get any awards. <br />Director Baird very briefly reviewed the information <br />included in the Budget Book, which_includes a map, information <br />about the County's incorporation, its size, population, tax <br />tables, taxing districts, statistical information as to expendi- <br />tures for the last 10 years, and other pertinent information <br />about such things as citrus production, bank deposits, etc. <br />Director Baird noted that the Budget Book is set up for the <br />public, and he believed it answers most questions. Staff defi- <br />nitely will try to improve it in the future, but he hoped the <br />Commissioners and the public both will find this an informative <br />and helpful document. He informed the Board that he is two weeks <br />late to submit for an award this year, but hopes to be able to <br />make it next year. It is a very tedious and time consuming task. <br />The Commissioners complimented the OMB Director and staff <br />for doing a very nice job in putting the Budget Book together. <br />COPY OF SAID BUDGET BOOK IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF CLERK TO THE <br />BOARD. <br />DISCUSSION OF 14 SALES TAX REFERENDUM <br />Commissioner Scurlock wished to discuss items to be included <br />on a "cheat sheet" for Commissioners to refer to when on speaking <br />engagements to educate the public regarding the proposed 14 Sales <br />Tax. He felt additional facts that should be included are that <br />this tax is not applicable to food and medicine and also that the <br />68 <br />
