This makes <br />up 42% of our budget. <br />Commissioner Bowman believed there is an immediate need for <br />some sort of library facility in Gifford. Many students are <br />attending the classes in the Community Center that Indian River <br />Community College is providing, computer classes, etc. However, <br />there is no library facility at all. <br />Commissioner Eggert stressed that it will take years to get <br />a building going, and that is why she wants to work on a way to <br />get some program going on there in the interim. <br />Chairman Wheeler asked how the Commission would like to <br />handle the 3 requests presented by Mr. Lundy, and Commissioner <br />Eggert advised that she personally would like to start working <br />towards getting some kind of library program together. She felt <br />we should include the health clinic within our plans for the new <br />Health Building, and she would like to work with the Council on <br />Aging towards a Senior Day Care Program. <br />Commissioner Scurlock believed he is hearing that the <br />general feeling is to include a branch health clinic in our <br />capital projects list along with the new Health Building, working <br />with Dr. Berman on the concept, and on the branch library and <br />Senior Day Care Center, try to work with existing programs and <br />agencies. <br />Commissioner Bird agreed that as far as the Day Care Center <br />and branch library are concerned, the thing to do is get some <br />programs started, even in temporary facilities. We cannot make a <br />commitment this morning to build a structure within that <br />community for these specific projects within the first 5 years, <br />but certainly if the programs are up there and doing well and <br />there is a demonstrated need for a free standing facility, he was <br />sure that would receive serious consideration at the time we <br />readdress the priorities for the next 5 year period. <br />Commissioner Eggert noted that the Marion Fell Library was <br />staffed by volunteers working along with one librarian, and <br />9 <br />,FEB 211989 <br />6 <br />` <br />BooBooa Fr.,f- 169 <br />
