Commissioner Scurlock felt he would like the opportunity to <br />take a look at this overall guideline before approving it. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the Commission appointing an <br />advisory board for the trail, but Chairman Wheeler wished to <br />stick to the adoption of the management plan today and address <br />the Historical Society's conceptual plan and the questions on the <br />right-of-way width, realignment and one-way drive at different <br />times when we can devote more time. <br />In conclusion, Mrs. Bunnell reemphasized that the Historical <br />Society's conceptual plan would serve as an excellent guideline <br />for the use of Jungle Trail, and that they look forward to <br />working with the County on it. <br />Burke Michael, president of Orchid Island Growers, which is <br />located on Jungle Trail, commented that in the last 4 years <br />people have been coming into her store saying what a great <br />place we have here, but in this past year, after a couple of <br />developments have come in, people have been coming in and asking <br />why we allowed them to do it. One of the reasons they come up <br />here is because they like the way we have managed things in this <br />county. Ms. Michael wished to see this management plan adopted <br />so that Jungle Trail will maintain its integrity and beauty and <br />will be there for the enjoyment of many generationstocome. <br />Charles Belmont, representing Indian River County <br />Conservation Committee, a group of approximately 45 members, <br />stated that they support the adoption of the Historical Society's <br />conceptual plan. <br />Cheryl Oliver, speaking in behalf of the Sebastian River <br />Junior Women's Club of the General Federation of Women, advised <br />that they endorse the adoption of the management plan for Jungle <br />Trail and also support the vision of the Historical Society's <br />plan for a Jungle Trail Scenic and Historical Corridor Park. <br />Arlene Westfall, president of the Sebastian River Area <br />Historical Society, advised that their membership of 150 supports <br />the IRC Historical Society's conceptual plan.
