APR 2 5 1989 <br />BOOK 76 FKiE 710 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution 89-40, asking the State to designate a <br />portion of the Sebastian River as a manatee protection <br />area. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 89- 40 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUN <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE DESIGNATION OF A <br />PORTION OF THE SEBASTIAN RIVER AS A <br />MANATEE PROTECTION AREA. <br />WHEREAS, the Department of National Resources is <br />considering designating portions of the Sebastian River, <br />including the North Fork, as a manatee protection area; and <br />WHEREAS, manatees are observed in these areas in <br />great numbers regularly and ftequentiy; and <br />WHEREAS, the manatee would be eligible for <br />protection under Department of Natural Resources' rules <br />regulating the operation of speed or motor boat traffic were <br />this area to be designated for special protection; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of <br />County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida hereby <br />supports and endorses the efforts of the Department of <br />Natural Resources Jo provide special protection by rule to <br />the manatee habitat In the area of the Sebastian River, <br />especially the North Fork thereof. <br />The foregoing having been moved by Commissioner <br />Scurlock and seconded by Commissioner Eggert , upon <br />follows: <br />Aye <br />Aye <br />being put to a vote, was carried with a vote as <br />Chairman Gary C.
