MAY 9 1999 Rcu, 7 <br />Chairman Wheeler stated that if the City wants a meeting, he <br />has no objection to meeting with them. Commissioner Bird, <br />however, believed it is unfair to staff just to have a casual <br />meeting without a more formal agenda. <br />Commissioner Eggert believed the City simply wanted an <br />update on things, and Administrator Chandler reiterated that <br />staff is prepared to give general status reports if that is what <br />is wanted. <br />Discussion continued in regard to setting a date for the <br />meeting and then determine if the Council members want a meeting, <br />and Commissioner Scurlock stressed that he wished to have a set <br />agenda. <br />It was agreed to schedule a joint meeting for May 18th at <br />9:00 with an agenda unless the City does not wish to meet. <br />PROPOSED BUDGET WORKSHOP WITH SHERIFF <br />Administrator Chandler informed the Board that he has been <br />in contact with the Sheriff, who has indicated that he is still <br />finalizing some facts and figures and wouldn't be available for a <br />full public meeting until probably the first week in July. <br />He did indicate, however, that he would be available to meet with <br />the Commission members on an individualized informal basis <br />between now and then. <br />Commissioner Eggert commented that she would have a hard <br />time meeting with the Sheriff if that information will not be <br />available until July. She felt a workshop would be very helpful. <br />Commissioner Scurlock informed the Board that he called the <br />Sheriff last Friday and suggested that he certainly would be <br />willing to sit down and go over figures. He stated that he has <br />found it is an almost impossible task to develop the numbers to <br />compare all the Sheriff offices in the state. He actually had <br />the County Commission secretaries call all 67 counties, and based <br />on that, it seemed there were some glaring inconsistencies. Then <br />24 <br />S � _ <br />
