He believed we also have a <br />model from Seminole County. <br />Commissioner Scurlock continued to stress that he couldn't <br />understand why staff would not track both systems and negotiate <br />with both which he felt would give us some advantage in <br />negotiations. <br />Mrs. Powell advised that they went to Volusia and Seminole <br />Counties and saw both systems; they have talked with other <br />libraries but only saw one system of each. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that the Libraries do not have a <br />computer system now and everything is done manually. He wished <br />to know what the computer system actually will do for them. <br />Mrs. Powell explained that the computer system will handle <br />inventory control - check-in and check-out items - record's <br />management - administration - acquisition, etc. It will track <br />everything they order to avoid duplication and have serials <br />control, which is magazines and newspapers, and that is a massive <br />job. It also will keep track of overdue books and fines. <br />Commissioner Bird asked if the people on the desk will be <br />able to use the system, and Commissioner Eggert assured him that <br />it is so "user friendly" even she can use it. <br />Commissioner Scurlock stressed that he is trying to be <br />consistent. He just spent 8 weeks trying to get a computer for <br />Utilities that was approved in the budget and that an RFP went <br />out for, and we finally approved it today. Now, we are making a <br />purchase of a $240,000 computer that we have 2 firms where we <br />have only made 2 visitations and a couple of phone calls and we <br />are not doing an RFP that was going to cost $10,000 because it <br />seems we have the internal knowledge all of a sudden to make this <br />decision. <br />Administrator Chandler pointed out that we spent funds last <br />year to get a consultant on board to give us some recommendations <br />and guidance.
