W <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, that the Board approve staff's <br />recommendation as set out in the above memo. <br />Commissioner Scurlock inquired about the total points <br />received by the 3 firms that were shortlisted, because he <br />believed it gives us better negotiating flexibility if they were <br />very close. <br />Administrator Chandler confirmed that the first three firms <br />were very close in total points. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. The Motion <br />was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />PROBATION DIVISION - ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 6/22/89: <br />DATE: JUNE 22, 1989 <br />TO: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />THRU: JAMES E. CHANDLER <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR <br />FROM: H.T. "SONNY" DEAN, DIRECTOR <br />DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVII <br />SUBJECT: PROBATION DIVISION - ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The subject department was created in 1985 as an alternative for the <br />County Judges in the sentencing of persons and to relieve some of the <br />jail over crowding. This division is also being used to track and <br />collect certain fines which the Clerk's Office had not been successful <br />in doing. They have taken over the Community Service program that was <br />being administered by the Salvation Army which was experiencing major <br />problems. The Week -end Work program is also being overseen by our <br />Probation Officers. <br />The record speaks for its self,in that since their inception they have <br />handled over 2,100 individual cases as of May, 1989. Our Staff of two <br />(2) Probation Officers and two support personnel are currently <br />.;;supervising four hundred ninety-two (492) cases assigned by the Courts. <br />y -.This does not include one hundred and forty-five average cases per month <br />in the Week-End/Day, Warrant/Suspense Status, and Conditional Release <br />:.Programs. The Florida Department of Corrections Probation average case <br />"Toad per Officer is 96 cases state wide.
