RECONSIDER PARTICIPATION IN ST. JOHN'S WELL PLUGGING PROGRAM <br />Director Keating reviewed the following: <br />TO: James Chandler <br />County Administrator <br />FROM: Robert M. Keating, AICPML—' <br />Community Development Director <br />DATE: July 10, 1989 <br />SUBJECT: RECONSIDERATION OF REQUEST FOR APPROVAL FOR COUNTY <br />TO PARTICIPATE IN ST. JOHN'S RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT <br />DISTRICT WELL PLUGGING PROGRAM. <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal <br />consideration by the Board `of County Commissioners at their <br />regular meeting of June 18, 1989. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />At the June 13, 1989 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the <br />board considered the subject request. A copy of the agenda item <br />presented at that meeting is attached to this memorandum. <br />Several questions arose at that meeting regarding the subject <br />request. Consequently, the board did not authorize participation <br />in the SJRWMD cost sharing program. The board, however, did <br />direct the staff to obtain more information on this matter. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS: <br />Since the June 13, 1989 meeting, the staff has contacted the <br />SJRWMD staff regarding the questions raised by the board. To <br />address those questions, a SJRWMD staff representative will <br />attend the July 18, 1989 meeting. <br />The planning staff has also reduced the funding amount requested <br />for allocation to this program. Instead of $30,000, the staff <br />has reduced the proposed allocation to $15,000. With the <br />district's $15,000 match, this would result in a total program of <br />$30,000. <br />Approval of this request only indicates that the board concurs <br />with the concept of participation in the program and agrees to <br />budget the referenced funds in FY 89-90. No money will be <br />expended for this program until a subsequent agreement with the <br />district is approved by the board. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners <br />agree to participate in the SJRWMD cost-sharing, well plugging <br />program and agree to include $15,000 for the program for FY <br />89-90 budget. <br />J U L 18 1989 25 RvoK i Jb <br />
