TENTATIVE BUDGET HEARING <br />Tuesday, September 5, 1989 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, met in Special Session at the County Commission <br />Chambers, 1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, <br />September 5, 1989, at 6:01 o'clock P.M. Present were Gary C. <br />Wheeler, Chairman; Carolyn K. Eggert, Vice Chairman; Richard N. <br />Bird; Margaret C. Bowman, and Don C. Scurlock, Jr. Also present <br />were James E. Chandler, County Administrator; Charles Vitunac, <br />Attorney to the Board of County Commissioners; Joseph Baird, OMB <br />Director; and Barbara Bonnah, Deputy Clerk. <br />Chairman Wheeler called the meeting to order and led the <br />Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Chairman Wheeler announced that the purpose of this meeting, <br />which is one of the two public hearings that will be held, is to <br />consider and adopt the Tentative Budget for fiscal year 1989-90. <br />He explained to those present the procedure that would be <br />followed during the hearings on the various funds, noting that it <br />is a pretty involved process with a number of things prescribed <br />by law. <br />Administrator Chandler gave a brief overview of the proposed <br />budget for 1989-90, and announced that the total budget proposed <br />for next fiscal year beginning October 1st, is $114 -million. Of <br />that total budget, the increase on expenses amounts to <br />approximately $9.3 million,'an increase of 8.9% He felt the <br />total budget reflects to a large extent the impact of the growth <br />in population that we have been experiencing here in Indian River <br />County.
