The grant <br />program is an innovative process which enables EMS agencies to <br />improve and expand EMS systems through their Board of County <br />Commissioners. On-going costs for EMS remain the responsibility of <br />the counties and EMS agencies and organizations. <br />A grant application has been prepared describing the needs and <br />proposing grant objectives and time frames in which the objectives <br />will be obtained. The application is now before the Board of County <br />Commissioners for discussion and approval. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The County grant funds are derived from surcharges on various <br />traffic violations. Funding in the amount of $34,144.79 has been <br />allocated to Indian River County for FY 89-90. The monies will be <br />utilized as indicated to improve and expand the ALS pre -hospital <br />system. <br />Funds have been allocated this year for the purchase of a multi- <br />purpose vehicle; radio equipment for ALS; medical equipment; <br />training equipment; payment for the used ambulance purchased from <br />the Fellsmere Volunteer Ambulance Service; and computer <br />hardware/software. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of the 89-90 EMS County Award Grant <br />Application and requests the Chairman be authorized to execute the <br />necessary documents to obtain the funding allocation of $34,144.79 <br />from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services to improve <br />and expand the pre -hospital EMS system in Indian River County. <br />• <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Scurlock being absent)adopted Resolution <br />89-132a authorizing the submittal of the 1989-90 EMS <br />County Award Grant Application and authorized staff to <br />execute the necessary documents to obtain the funding <br />allocation of $34,144.79, as set out in the above staff <br />recommendation. <br />COPY OF APPLICATION IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE <br />BOARD <br />
