NOV <br />6,9 <br />BOOK 78 FAGS auk <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bowman, Commissioner Eggert being absent, the <br />Board unanimously (4-0) approved Alternative 1 as <br />recommended by staff. <br />D. Proclamation - Career Assistance Day <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, there is a growing shortage of skilled labor and a <br />need to recruit and prepare new workers for the work force; and <br />WHEREAS, many people are ready and willing to participate in <br />the work force, given the advantage, encouragement, and support to <br />prepare for work; and <br />WHEREAS, these people need job search assistance, work <br />habits training, job skills, basic skills development, labor <br />market information and career counseling to attain, maintain or <br />advance in employment; and <br />WHEREAS, the economic growth and development of the County <br />depends upon a reliable, skilled work force of which persons with <br />special needs comprise an important component; and <br />WHEREAS, the. Vero Beach and Sebastian Chambers of Commerce <br />and the Indian River Council of 100 regard the work force needs of <br />Indian River County employers as an important economic issue; and <br />WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast Private Industry Council, Indian <br />River County School Board, and the Literacy Council have united <br />to provide the assessment, career counseling, literacy services, <br />job search assistance, job training, basic skills development, <br />and GED preparation needed to prepare people for the workplace; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, these services are now available to the residents <br />of Indian River County through the Career Assistance Center <br />housed at the Job Training Center, 1500 14th Avenue: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS of Indian River County, Florida that Thursday, <br />November 30, 1989 be declared <br />CAREER ASSISTANCE DAY <br />6 <br />
