ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />Although the update isonly ``required -on" tennis as <br />the Department of Emergency Management Services updates the <br />plan annually and submits it every three years for review <br />and approval by the State. <br />The plan is necessary due to the proximity of the St. Lucie <br />Nuclear Power Plan to Indian River County. Ongoing programs <br />are given to various groups in the community throughout the <br />year to orient them to potential dangers of radiation and <br />actions that should be taken should a release occur at the <br />plant site. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners <br />adopt and approve the attached resolution relating to the <br />County Nuclear Civil Protection Plan. <br />OEC /J989 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bowman, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution 89-149 adopting a Nuclear Civil Protection <br />Plan. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 89- 149 <br />A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, BY AND THROUGH ITS BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, ADOPTING A NUCLEAR <br />CIVIL PROTECTION PLAN FOR INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY. <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 252, Florida Statutes, Disaster <br />Preparedness Act, establishes a Division of Emergency <br />Management (DIVISION) and prescribes the powers and <br />responsibilities thereof; and <br />WHEREAS, §252.38, F.S., authorizes and directs each <br />county of the state, through its Board of Commissioners, to <br />establish a county organization for Emergency Management <br />Services; and <br />WHEREAS, Florida Administrative Code Rule 9G-6.006 <br />requires submission by Indian River County (COUNTY) to the <br />DIVISION of a triennial update of the County's Nuclear Civil <br />Protection (NCP) Plan*; and <br />WHEREAS, Rule 9G-6.007, F.A.C., requires that after <br />determination by the DIVISION that the COUNTY's plan is in <br />compliance, that the COUNTY pass a resolution officially <br />adopting the NCP Plan for Indian River County, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the <br />29 <br />B Q <br />BOOK. 8 F,{�E 3 <br />
