Scurlock <br />Commissioner, Indian River County <br />1840 25 Street <br />Vero Beach, FL 32960 <br />Dear Commissioner Scurlock, <br />Last September, you were kind enough to take part in a <br />feasibility study regarding the establishment of a local <br />public television station in Fort pierce to serve the <br />Treasure Coast, one of the last unserved areas in the <br />country. At that time, Community Television Foundation of <br />South Florida, Inc., licensee of WPBT, was considering the <br />utilization of Channel 21 to provide local service for the <br />300,000 Treasure Coast residents. <br />Although your response to the study was positive, our <br />Board of Directors asked that we defer further action when <br />The Palmetto Foundation and Palm Beach Atlantic College <br />announced plans to develop a PBS affiliate, and we so <br />advised you of that in late November. <br />Circumstances have changed in the past few months and <br />CTF is now afforded the opportunity to move forward toward <br />the establishment of a public television facility to serve <br />your area. As part of its plan to activate this station, <br />CTF has filed.an application with the National Tele- <br />communications and information Agency, U.S. Department'of <br />Commerce, for financial assistance in purchasing the <br />necessary transmission equipment. <br />In its thirty-five years of public television service <br />in South Florida, CTF has amassed an impressive record of <br />community service and programming excellence. We believe <br />that CTF is uniquely qualified to establish this new service <br />in the Treasure Coast. <br />Your letter of support of CTF in this worthy project <br />would greatly demonstrate to NTIA the importance of funding <br />CTFrs grant request. Enclosed is a suggested letter of <br />support for your consideration. <br />NTIA has a deadline for support letters, so we would <br />appreciate your quick response by February 23rd.
