MAR <br />61990 <br />sooK <br />�'9 <br />F,1cE 448 <br />Judy Roberts recalled <br />that it was exactly one year <br />ago <br />today <br />they met to talk about reactivating the South Beach Municipal <br />Services Benefit District in order to assess the costs for <br />building a recreation path along AIA, and with lots and lots of <br />volunteers and with the help of Commissioner Bird and Public Works <br />Director Jim Davis, they put together a plan they feel will work, <br />will work quickly and will certainly give them what they want on <br />south AIA, and will establish a precedent for other neighborhoods <br />in the county that would like to have the same thing. In working <br />with Mr. Davis, they determined that the cost for a 5 -ft. wide <br />concrete path would be $330,000 That is a conservative <br />estimate, and hopefully, it will be less than that. The <br />residents are willing to pay on a petition pavement basis where <br />70o is billed to the residents and 25% is picked up by the County. <br />Each homeowner would pay the same set amount, an equal portion, <br />rather than it being assessed on the value of the property. <br />t ,� •eta a ?'_,,, " <br />! <br />a Indian River County Ordinance #83-21, the South 'Beach. <br />Recreation Path Municipal Service Taxing Unit, was enacted , in <br />3 by the County Commission to fund a recreation path along <br />A -I -A south of the Vero Beach city limit. The ordinance was <br />�} amended in 1989 to become a municipal benefit taxing unit. .t <br />The City of Vero Beach plans to have in place within the next <br />24 months an unbroken recreation path from Indian River.,Shores <br />r� <br />y , to the south city limit. t <br />f !e. <br />s�, <br />- Recognizing the need for : such a path on thecrowded 'south <br />section of A -I -A, a group of that area's residents has formed <br />to ask the County Commission to activate the South .Beach <br />Recreation Path Municipal . Benefit Taxing Unit, as amended,_;;to,: <br />construct the recreation path and to assess affected <br />!* homeowners 75$ of the cost, the County to pay 25%.
