very specifically that we have an Advisory Board. The abolishment <br />question arose because the Advisory Board hasn't met for a long <br />while, but the purpose of the Advisory Board was to receive input <br />from all over the county. They are here today to state that they <br />support the unity of a county -wide fire district. They have <br />expertise from within the Fire Dept. and through the International <br />Firefighters Association and feel they can assist in establishing <br />a county -wide fire district, and feel very strongly that the <br />paid firefighters from both the north and south county should have <br />representation on the ad hoc committee. <br />Commissioner Scurlock explained that his reason for putting <br />the volunteers from the north and south county on the committee is <br />that they generally are also paid firefighters. He understood <br />that Mr. Tripp's suggestion is to have one representative from the <br />professional paid firefighters from the south county and one from <br />the north county. <br />Chairman Eggert suggested that we take Commissioner <br />Scurlock's recommended list of members and add Mr. Tripp's <br />suggestion for one paid firefighter from the north county and one <br />paid firefighter from the south county, plus a member at large, <br />perhaps from the Taxpayer's Association, who is not a retired <br />fireman. <br />Mr. Tripp repeated his feelings that we have to work <br />together, and Chairman Eggert felt that what Commissioner Scurlock <br />is saying is that we should go to an ad hoc committee and proceed <br />from that, but let the Advisory Board float for a while until such , <br />time it is determined it is no longer needed. <br />Mr. Tripp reminded the Board about the Advisory Board being <br />specifically mentioned in the contractual agreement, and suggested <br />that if both parties are in accord, the contractual agreement <br />could be changed. <br />Attorney Vitunac advised that the ordinance for abolishment <br />is coming up next week, and Chairman Eggert felt that could be <br />67 <br />MAR 61990 BOOK I' F{, <br />
