MEMO: Albert VanAuken to James Davis dated 2/26/90 <br />DATE: March 7, 1990 <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />During the 1989-90 Fiscal Year Budget session, the <br />Board appropriated $475,000.00 for resurfacing county roads. <br />The Road and Bridge Superintendent has prepared for the <br />attached partial list of resurfacing projects for approval <br />at this time so that a portion of the funds can be spent <br />prior to the end of the fiscal year. Historically, a large <br />amount of resurfacing is programmed in August and September <br />and adequate time is not provided. The attached list is for <br />resurfacing only, and does not include the addition of paved <br />shoulders. It is our opinion that widening collector and <br />arterial roads where possible to include a 4' paved shoulder <br />provides a safer and easier to maintain roadway. This is a <br />standard Florida Department of Transportation practice due <br />to liability reasons. To add the paved shoulders to all <br />roads except 16th Street (which is curbed) and 20th Avenue <br />(which has insufficient right-of-way) would add $54,204.00 <br />to the resurfacing cost of $162,750.00 for a total cost of <br />$216,954.00. If this partial list is approved, there would <br />remain in the Road & Bridge Division budget approximately <br />$235,000.00 for additional projects to be identified later <br />this summer. .. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND FUNDING <br />It is recommended that the attached list of resurfacing <br />projects be approved at this time with the addition of paved <br />shoulders for a cost of $216,954.00.
